Area and Perimeter (SOL 3.10)
Students will be learning the following vocabulary words this week:

Perimeter - the length around and object (polygon)

Area - the space inside of an object (polygon)

Polygon - a closed figure with more than two sides. Sides cannot be curved.
Find the area by either counting up the square units or by using the formula (length x width) as shown in the images below:
Find perimeter by adding the lengths of ALL sides together. Students will also be required to use a ruler to measure to the nearest centimeter and/or inch and 1/2 inch.
Perimeter = 7 + 3 + 7 + 3 = 20

Students will begin rigorous practice with basic multiplication and division facts. Teachers will have the students use grid paper in order to create their own multiplication table. See the example below:
